Whoooaaaa, this vid did not sit well with me. Made me kinda uncomfortable tbh. I'll try to keep my response as scriptural as I can, Lord willing.

Disclaimer: I have no place to condemn any other man, I am a sinner just like any other! But this video is not and should not be considered doctrinally acceptable. This video is NOT proper Christian theology, even though it makes scriptural references. I say this for the good of the community, lest anyone be tempted by the message of the video.

Keep in mind:

2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2Ti 4:4 And they shall turn away [their] ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

and:

Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

So you can see where they went wrong... it's a philosophy. : P
Meaning they took their own "feelings" and "ideas" and added them to the Word of God (and as we know, we are warned severely not to add to the scriptures -Rev. 22:18). Now don't get me wrong- Some of his comments are quite lucid scriptural observations. But they are *twisted* in a fashion to justify sinning. A flawed premise begets a flawed conclusion (as we most certainly learn in the book of Job).

Furthermore, Hedonism and Christianity are completely opposing paradigms! Hedonism is the antithesis to Christianity. We are in fact called to deny ourselves, not gratify our every lust. (Matthew 16:24).


Responses as they come:

- The title of the vid is "Seek ye first pleasure?!" Are we so foolish? Scriptures say to "seek the Kingdom of God first, and His righteousness" [Christ's righteousness]:
Mat 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Christ's righteousness certainly did not include the intoxication and "drunken ministry" that these guys espouse. Plus, it's clear that the kid in the video is not merely drunk... some of you have been around the proverbial block and know what's going on here. We are to seek the Kingdom of God, but it will certainly not be found on Earth, that's for sure...

- Point #1 above is falsehood. Our human longing to be happy very often leads us into sin, and we know this experientially!

- Point #2 is absolutely contrary to the teachings of Christ. Our hearts are deceitful. Just because it feels good does not mean it's not sinful (in fact, it often *is* sinful). Are we not called by the Gospel of Christ to deny ourselves?
Mat 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Jer 17:9 The heart [is] deceitful above all [things], and desperately wicked: who can know it?
Desperately wicked!

- Point #3 is true by itself, but they use the idea out of it's proper context. We need to be aware that our treasure (and pleasure) is stored up for us in Heaven. This doesn't mean to seek pleasure in the world. Quite the contrary:
Gal 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.

Paul says he is crucified unto the world. He's dead to the world! The world has no ultimate satisfaction or pleasure for him- that is reserved for him in the Kingdom of Heaven, as with all redeemed sinners. As a Christian, I HATE the world... compared to the Kingdom of Heaven to come.

When it comes down to it, if you want to pick-and-choose bits of the Bible and take them out of context to suit your ideals, you can seemingly justify all manner of sinful behavior. But then you're practicing eisegesis, not exegesis... putting your interpretations into the Bible, not taking God's Word out.

Not trying to attack you Raindance, and not trying to start ish. This just needed to be said for the sake of good Christian doctrine in the forums. I'd hate to see any of the brothers here swayed to walk in darkness rather than light. I know this vid personally tempted me, I reminisced back to my old raver daze. (sic)
