I’ve been a DJ for almost 14 years now myself, and supported myself through a good bit of that as well. I have releases on Major labels like Universal, as well as independents like Ascension, Next Dimension, PWM, Kaktai, etc…
Feedback was asked for. Feedback was given.
The problem for years with Christians involved in EDM is they’ve been so concerned with support and encouragement (that is vital) that they don’t give honest, critical feedback needed to make one’s craft better.
If you’re interested in being noticed in the secular scene, then you need to conform to secular standards. By standards, I mean genre classification, production quality, and relevance to the market.
Who cares if your music doesn’t fit into a specific genre? Well, the label you’re pitching your tracks to does. If they can’t classify it, they can’t sell it.
Yes, by all means create what God has put into your heart…..But God also gives you wisdom to decide where your music needs to be classified in order to support yourself and spread His message using your tracks.
