I forgot. John 3:5 has a cross reference to Titus 3:5. “He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing and of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.”

Also, with the 1 John 5 passage that was given about the three giving testimony. As I reread this again I found something else that is cool, and proves the point of belief. Keep reading in the passage.

1 Jn 5:10 “Anyone who believes has this testimony in his heart. Anyone who does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the testimony God has given about his son.”
Important part here is. Anyone who believes. It does not say some. It does not say, those who believe and are baptized. No. It says anyone. It means everyone who believes has this testimony.

and what is this testimony. That God has given us eternal life, and this life is his Son. He who has the Son has life. He who does not have the Son of God does not have life. (v. 11-12). And this testimony is on the hearts of all who believe.
