To help this thread stand alone without folks having to read the stuff in the “The Gospel” thread, here’s what I posted in that thread on this topic.

Regarding the “no trinity” idea, if there is none, then Jesus was probably mentally ill. Jesus talks repeatedly about “Him [or the one] that sent me”. If Jesus is all there is, then verses like the following have Him speaking about Himself in a split-personality manner.

“Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.”
Luke 10:16

“Whoever rejects me rejects me”?

“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.”
John 4:34

“I want to do the will of me who sent me”?

“Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.”
John 5:24

“By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.”
John 5:30

“”I seek not to please myself but me who sent me”?

“And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form,
John 5:37

“I testified concerning myself”?

Then Jesus, still teaching in the temple courts, cried out, “Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from. I am not here on my own authority, but he who sent me is true. You do not know him.”
John 7:28

“I have much to say in judgment of you. But he who sent me is trustworthy, and what I have heard from him I tell the world.”
John 8:26

“The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him.”
John 8:29

“You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.”
John 14:28

“I am going to myself, for I am greater than I”?

“In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”
John 16:26-28

Reading any of those verses with Jesus and Him/The One/The Father/God being Jesus referring to Himself just makes absolutely no sense.

Then, there’s the Holy Spirit….

“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
John 14:26

(Sorry, not going to take the time to gather a bunch of verses for the Holy Spirit.) If there’s no trinity and only Jesus, that verse could accurately be rewritten as….

“But me, myself, whom I will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
