Lawyers- works on contracts. If both parties is not included the contract could be nulled and void. Usually both sides will have a lawyer. Fees range from $150 to $600 an hour or a certain percentage of the final product. There a two copyrights one for the song the other for the recording. “Rain Makers” the charismatic promoters and there are the other people behind the desk that know the ins and outs of the law.
A+R (Artist and Repertoire)- Looks for talent, signs people to the label. Not usually in a recording session. Salary $30,000-$150,000.
Managers- Does a little of everything and makes sure everyone is doing what they are supposed to do and how well it is getting done. He gets 15-20% of royalties. Managers might have several groups to manage.
Consultant- Relatively new job. Freelance, inexpensive, hired for a short time for specific task. Like a quickie manager. Usually cash up front. $200-$1,000 for services.
