Well, first is causes me to really think and allow my heart to be weighed by the Lord. It is a very direct word from the Lord to a people that I feel is much like the church of Sardis.

Rev 3:1 “And to the angel of the church in Sardis write, ‘These things says He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars: “I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead.

Also it makes me think of the warning that Jesus gives to His desciples

Mat 7:22 “Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’

Mat 7:23 “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

These types of verses cause my heart to cry out in prayer to the Lord. Seeing that it is possible to have the appearance of life, the works of miracles, and even worship and yet not having true salvation.

As I read these together the conclusion I come to is this, above all the great works we can perform as followers of Christ, the most important is to know, fellowship (be friends with), and love Jesus. We must actually have a living relationship with our beloved God. Then, in having a firm relationship, we have a confidence that the works we are performing; wether worship, healings, or acts of kindness: are the will of our Father, because we speak with Him on a day to day basis and REALLY know what is His good pleasure in truth.

Ultimately, we were created to be like the Father and act like Him. How is it possible to do this if we do not actually spend time with Him and get to know what He is really like in our own personal lives.

Lord, give me grace to seek You out as a real living Papa and friend. Help me to sit with You and talk face to face with You. Thank You for the simplicity of the Gospel and Your great patience to walk it out with us!

Blessings!
