ok so why is it that dj genesis can bang out a track in a few hours, but it takes me upwards of 20+ hours to make a track, is that average? how long does it take you to make a track? usually i end up having upwards of 30-40 separate tracks in one song tho… fx etc… but… im wondering if this is the norm, or do i have musical downs syndrom?October 22, 2009 at 9:42 pm #30900
yesOctober 22, 2009 at 11:48 pm #30892
If you have problems with 20+ hours than I must be like really bad off. Most of the the stuff that I do takes 50+ hours . I know that professionals spend bunches of time on certain tracks. The engineer/mixer I’m doing an internship with spent days with a producer to find the right snare sound . So at least you get a whole track done instead of just one snare sample lol. Also for me I’m still learning a lot and very particular on how everything sounds. The more time you spend the more likely it will sound better and well rounded.
God Bless with your work. He can give us all knowledge and sill in all learning and wisdom (Daniel 1:17)October 22, 2009 at 11:51 pm #30893
I would say most of my projects have probably around 40 tracks to 50 for large projects. Small projects would probably be around 20 or 30 tracksOctober 22, 2009 at 11:59 pm #30894
lol yea you are right, alot of the time is spent on trying to find that right sound you want, and sometimes being frustrated that you cant find that sound you want heheOctober 23, 2009 at 12:52 am #30895
i really have no desired sound…i kinda just go with the flow. im no pro at it though, and i plan to get better at some time, but today is not that day lolOctober 23, 2009 at 1:51 am #30896
well, I takes many hours to finish a good quality song, that is why professional producers make one album per year, or two at the most, cuz it takes a long time.
if you take a look to some songs for example in logic, good songs have a lot more tracks than 40, lots of efects, automation, compresion, and eq work, I say, yes it takes a long time to produce something you feel happy with.
take a look at Satic blue & 7 skies in you tube, for example the song Central Park and you will see what Im talking about.
and yes you can produce a song in 2 hours but…..October 23, 2009 at 8:09 am #30897
done some in 2 or 3 hours done some that took me a month.. first track ever took a year (wos 12 so finished when i was 13… but that wos mostly due to learning to work wif it i guess )
in the end its not the time spend on it that counts or howmany tracks u’ve produced in a certain timespawn… its about the quality and letting people enjoy that musicOctober 23, 2009 at 7:07 pm #30898

Normaly abaot two weeks to create a track,
it all depends on what inspriration i get.
and a state of mind
sometimes it take me 4 months and the result is sounding like crap.
Sometimes it’s taking a few hours and a i love it…
