Oh that’s a great idea! I hadn’t thought of that. I was hoping that I could do unofficial remixes, with my own vocalists…but for a release, I’d have to get permission from the original artists… (Chris Tomlin, Newsboys, etc.) does anyone know how much that costs?
I have no idea how to go about getting copyright clearance, so that could be a tough one. Maybe just busting out a hymn and using something in the public domain would be a easier idea. Most people know the popular hymns anyway. I think that using hymns could also encourage others who don’t listen to EDM to sing along and worship because the lyrics would not be foreign. Have you ever have a guest worship leader and they do songs that you have never heard? This can be distracting for me, so hymns could be easier to incorporate because they are well known.
to get past the copyright you have to contact the person who wrote the song originally and get written permission from them to use their song….usually they get a fraction of the profit from any sales you make as well….so that could be weird….
Thanks for the input guys. And thanks for all the warm welcomes! As far as clearance goes, I would really have no problem sharing profits with the original artist, it is their song after all, and it’s all about getting God to people who never knew him anyway!
