So, I emailed the “newmusic” address from the label, hoping to get signed, and as you might expect, got flat-out rejected. Rather than grieve about this, I am looking for constructive criticism so that maybe someday I will be able to get signed by the awesome label you guys have here.

    Here’s my track:

What’s wrong with it? Major changes, or minor polish?

    Hey bro!

The Lord bless you! It is cool that you are opening up for some advice, personal tracks are a precious thing. I would like to give a few, if that is alright.

The lyrics could use some polishing, like instead of keeping the words up and down with the beat, change the flow of them up to create a slightly different but complimentary flow with your kick/hat ect.

I like the center of the song were the breakdown is. I would refine the drums, add some compression or maybe update your drum pack library.

Overall good job! Keep worshiping the Lord. There is some real talent in all of this, just keep refining your craft and don’t give up. You have the Lord in you and He will breathe on your music when time comes.

    Blessings,
    Stranger

Definitely agree about the drums bit, but not sure I understand your point on lyrics. Could you reword that? Thanks in advance! :)

Like, if your kick is on the down beat, your vocals being on the up beat. Or any variation.

I will simulate, the bold letters will be were the instrument/vocals hit.

    Kick 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and

    Vocals 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and

or any variation like if you mapped it out with quarter nots.

    Kick 1 e and a 2 e and a 3 e and a 4 e and a

    Vocals 1 e and a 2 e and a 3 e and a 4 e and a

Hope that helps, if not lemme know. Bless you!
