when I saw this on the news this morning i was like…whaaaAAA??!June 10, 2009 at 7:35 pm #28947
yea thats what i wanna see, a big dome over my headJune 22, 2009 at 6:02 pm #28948
Wow that is insane! What are they going to do about rain and air conditioning? It is really impractical.June 22, 2009 at 7:39 pm #28949
ROFL! That’s the silliest thing anyone’s ever proposed and been serious about! LOL Talk about burying your head in the sand… to avoid tragic weather we hide!? Why not worry about climate change and pollution instead of wasting more resources on this kind of endeavor?
At the Dome’s highest point, an array of hinged panels can be opened to provide ventilation, help regulate temperature, clear humidity or pollution and reduce the load on the dome’s air treatment systems. They can even be used to free captive birds.
C’mon… you’re gonna open up some vents at the top to let the birdies out? Who’s gonna let them in? In fact… if you ever need to let people out…like EVERYONE… in a hurry.. won’t that be kind of a major bottleneck? A few entrances/exits isn’t going to work!
And have you seen what happens to ETFE plastic when it becomes weathered and aged in the sun? As clear as milk. Unless all those dirigibles are put to work after construction as ‘window washers’.
Talk about Lame (yeah..with a capital “L).June 23, 2009 at 5:09 pm #28950
That comes from the Discovery Channel…
the more exciting news would be
“Discovery Channel has started promoting facts instead of fantasy“
- but let’s face it, that’s not gonna happen.June 23, 2009 at 7:06 pm #28951
science geeks who don’t get out much can “pro-pose” anything they want, with a .005% chance anyone will take them up on their idea. So Discovery can simply say that some scientists are “proposing” something… doesn’t mean anything.
I AM GOING TO “PROPOSE” something right now…
Ok everyone.. please annouce this to the facebook/twittering masses…
I, a Canadian very knowledgeable on environmental issues, am proposing that in the future we will all travel around in solar powered blimps.June 24, 2009 at 6:37 pm #28952
I, a Canadian very knowledgeable on environmental issues, am proposing that in the future we will all travel around in solar powered blimps.
Great, now with 100% factitude I know that Canada is going to force the US to use SolarBlimp technology and destroy all other forms of transportation by 2012!!!
Pre-emptive strike on Canada anyone?
Wait, what were we talking aboot?June 25, 2009 at 12:01 am #28953
I, an American of no scientific background whatsoever, am proposing that we will overthrow the CBSD (Canadian Blimp Supremacy Directive) with use of special high frequency signals bounced off top secret government satellites for the express purpose of driving the arctic polar bear population into a berserk mass migration southward.June 25, 2009 at 1:30 am #28954
I, also Canadian (muahahah), know for a FACT that there are only 6 polar bears left , (can’t count the albino Black Bear found in Algonquin Park) because of the polar ice cap MELTING into oblivion. Thanks to the BLIMPS we at least don’t worry about traffic or parking. HURRAY CANADA!June 27, 2009 at 2:03 pm #28955
Note to self: Must add polar bear cloning facility to my proposal…June 29, 2009 at 6:27 am #28956
wow… someone’s inner retard decided to liberate their body…
