so yeah, you’ve seen that my gear has been in a garage. Where usually its either hot or cold and other, its great. After discussion, dad agreed to moving it to the spare bedroom since it became storage for him. So it will be great for me in every way, acousitically, comfortable, next to my bedroom and little more tidy. Dad also likes he will be saving on power bill, haha and be able to take pics and be proud of it.

Picture of it empty with shelves still in:

its a panorama from the entry to right wall to partial opposite wall right before window. Dad would kill me if I posted what it use to look like.

So its all packed, shelves moved out, all painted. tomorrow I’ll be gather info on making some bass traps and sound traps and the carpet is going in and then we’ll be able to move gear in.

here’s some pics so far, sketch, color swatch and 3D render of what I’m doing with acousitc treatments.

And all of this is for helping dad and I’s business. Be able to do better mixes since the room will be better for monitoring.

yeah, dad realized the pros of it as he’ll be able to put his duplicating equipment in it as well.

I posted this to give an idea to room acoustics and just see the overall transformation.

If you’re serious about music and do final stages of mixing, mastering properly, some acoustic treatment is great. I’ve learned a lot since reading on the subject. On my cd I did, I have to get Andy of Deeplife to master my first six songs due to having problems with my current room setup. After that, I had figured out my problems and did the Reborn remix pretty good by testing it on many sources.

Also, you don’t have to go with expensive Auralex stuff either, there are plenty of DIY solutions too. I’ll post more once i have it together.

minus the desk, keyboard and mixer, got everything in the room.

new blinds and racks, that I loaded last night with my present gear.

got the materials to build the traps today.

Frame Finished, dad and I did all five thursday night.

Cut both 1×4 and 1×6′s, 49.5 inches Length, 25.5 inches Width

Dad cut them at 45 degrees on the ends, makes a nice corner but can be tricky to put together. So we put the glue, then few nails to hold, glued the corner braces, then screwed it all together.

Here they are covered. They are stapled on the back edge and trimmed. I didn’t get a picture of it, but we mounted a piece of wood to be a 2″ spacer for the bottom and then spaced two screws at the top to go through the brackets we used to hold the pieces in place. If need further detail, just ask.

The insulation is 4lb Mineral wool. Since frames were made to be tight around the insulation, didn’t feel I needed something to hold it in.

Here’s what the corner ones will look like. I made an error on material for the second, but also the electric staple gun quit working during stapling of the first corner trap, so will continue tomorrow. Still trying to decided how to mount it.

DIY approach can be tedious, but goes faster once a workflow develops. Saved some money, no doubt.

one in each corner, front ones will be DIY ones, and back ones will be the Lenrd traps I already have. Then we made three to go behind my desk, which area essentially called Broadband Absorbers.

thanks, and now the real work now begins.

I have plans to make a portfolio of my music and videos to show for future jobs, hopefully. Since my first round of studio scouting didn’t go well. I need something to show my work of what I’ve learned over past 4 years. Plus we have a video project coming up in Feb too.

A funny side note, dad pretty much took over construction and hanging of those five acoustic panels. Sure I helped him to make it easier, but I think he enjoys craftsmanship and plus when we cut the wood, it was cold and he’s faster at it than I am. LOL But when it was time to connect everything, I took over that and hung the rest of the acoustic treatment.
