    Hey Guys!

    Does anyone know where I can find remixes of popular worship songs?
    I have a gig in October, and I would like to have more than enough material to work with! Thanks!

    a certain artist….. that rhymes with Digital Aura or Ziggybeats….
    has done some remixes of popular tracks. They are both members on here, but they haven’t been extremely active recently.

    Alright thanks guys.

    Yeah that is something we need to change. I’m sure rights to use the composition but not necessarily the actual recorded parts would be easier to come by? Like how do churches release worship albums with covers of popular tracks?

    you could do a mix of a popular tune if you did your own tracking of the instruments of singers and if you did not sell it. So if you wanted to give a remix of a popular tune away, while using your own singers, then you should be fine.

    That’s what I’d like to do! Now I feel less overwhelmed about the whole copyright thing…I’ll just make it so that people can download the tracks for free. Besides, the end result (Salvation) is free!

    Awesome. I have some Christian Christmas hymn vocals that are really good. I need to prepare them, but I could send them your way. They were recorded by an awesome singer on $$$ gear.

    Travis just to clear things up, to use someone else’s material and rework it, but not sell it, you would still need a mechanical license and that is not free. If you distribute something (even free) without a proper license you are breaking the law. Not saying that I have never done it, but that is the case. :o

    @ sciencedrop

    you are correct. If you take a vocal of a CD or a obvious loop or something like that, then you would need to get approval even to just give it away, but if you record you own vocal or loop that sounds the same, then you don’t have a problem if you are giving it away. For example, to remix “How Great is our God” if I was to take the vocal of the CD, then I would need approval to give it away, but if I was to get my own singer then I could give it away as long as I didn’t sell it.

    @Digital Aura

    Oh snaps, you found my post :D

    So which is it? These kind of specifics are important to me, I’d rather not be breaking the law… :D

    Unfortunately that is not true Trav. You would still need a mechanical license. If you were to use the actual recording you would need a master use license as well. But if you take “How Great Is Our God” and sing it yourself, you still need a mechanical license. Its just A LOT cheaper to obtain a mechanical license than it is a master license. Check out http://www.harryfox.com for info on the licenses you need to distribute your material, whether its for sale or not. Its based on how many times its given out, not how much money is made on it.

    These licenses are often decently cheap, so if anyone is looking to remix or rework something like this, just go through the proper channels. It will be worth your time and money to do it right.
