The Story of The Name

So I told a few of you I would post the the story behind the name SCIENCE DROP. Its not exciting im warning you but too long to tell in chat so here it is. My beggining was the rave scene around Chicago (Known as the Dirty Party city, you dont wanna know) A few of my buddies started getting into producing their own tracks, mostly experimental. We were all dj’s (Skooly….my old name) and loved the chance to make our own beats. We had multiple computers and samplers along with our tables all spread across multiple rooms. A guy we knew came in one day and saw us doing our strange collaboration. He told us we looked like scientists, working different parts of the formula. From that day we started calling our work science. It seemed to fit this experimental type of production. As I grew more into my djing skills I wanted to be able to spin my own music. I also felt the need to shed this Skooly name for I needed a name that fit my djing as well as my production. The science thing had always stuck with me and if what we did was science, what came out of our work was “what we dropped”. (kinda taken from a beastie boys track dropping science) That was how the name Science Drop was formed. I was traveling a lot at the time playing around the country and met a Dj I was a HUGE fan of at the time. Charrissa (DJ Rap) talked to me about forming my own company and getting all these people I worked with into “one solid formation”. So spawned Science Drop Inc. (SDI) This was a huge time in my life because I really thought I heard God telling me to pursue this. I was exstatic about this and brought even more DJ’s into this venture. The whole thing didnt last a year. I lost most of the friends I had started with all this and was left with 1 DJ I was managing. She later bailed too. I sacrificed alot in this venture and was left with nothing. I lost all my gigs and residencies. Soon after this is when I met some people and started a church. Things have been clearer since then and God has shown me his real purpose with my music. I know, long story, could have been shorter BUT THERE IT IS.November 15, 2008 at 6:51 am #25849

Yeah, still do. I ended up doin a bunch of events with her and Bad Boy Bill. She was dating Steve Smooth (bad boy bills producer, who is from Chi) She actually moved here for awhile. Her studio flooded in La and she came this way. Didnt last long, as soon as it got cold she was out. I didnt blame her. We talk here and there, she lets me know when something big is gonna break for her or the label. Thats about it.November 15, 2008 at 5:23 pm #25852

No actually. Ive met him ALOT and I bet ya he would never remember who I was. Funny story though, we were doing an event in LA and Bill was flyin in from somewhere. He was with his manager BO. Bo had told us that they had to be picked up in a cadillac escalade with tinted windows. He told us this 2 days before they were coming in. Anyway, we couldnt find a place that would rent us one so we ended up coming in a minivan (haha). We thought it was funny till Bo told us that they wouldnt get in the car when we picked them up. They waited for three hours at the airport till we finally had to call and tell them we couldnt find the escalade. They ended up taking a cab. LOL! We went through so much trying to get them this stupid SUV and they ended up taking a cab. Not even a limo or towncar or something….a cab. Needless to say Bo was not my best friend after that.November 16, 2008 at 7:59 am #25854
