I started reading proverbs last night. I’ve read it straight through once but now 12 years later I’m going back through to see where I have fallin short. My short commings I know are vast, and I think proverbs is the only way I can get back on track with my spiritual journey..

    all advice welcome..

it’s kind of a joke but there is a little since behind it… king Solomon speaks of wisdom and calls it a her.. I’m just calling myself a fool because a. I’m a boy and b. my life for the past 12 years has been totally a foolish mans way of life.. maybe I sporadically spout good things however I am now seeing how foolish I’ve been…

Proverbs is awesome bro! You can read a chapter a day every month, basically. Lots of life wisdom and when you really dig you see the Christ throughout. And not only that but how Christ will lead us out of temptation if we submit to Him. Good stuff! Matter of fact. I think I’m going to read some proverbs today!

Covenant Life Church did an extended sermon series on Proverbs in 2009. Awesome stuff. One of the best sermons I’ve ever heard about sexuality was in that series. Another of the sermons was called “Wisdom is a Godly Babe (and a really Good Cook)”. :D

EDIT: I subscribe to their podcast on iTunes. However, you can check out those sermons at the following link: >http://www.covlife.org/resources/scripture/Proverbs<

The reason that Wisdom is personified as a girl is because it is a feminine noun in Hebrew: http://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/lexicon.cfm?Strongs=H2451&t=KJV

Also, Proverbs are in the Genre of Wisdom literature. This genre was written to tell about things that are true most of the time, but don’t always happen. You’ll get a lot of retribution talk in the Wisdom Lit. but we know that this isn’t a constant principle. That’s just one example…

Lastly, there is some rocking good stuff in Proverbs. It especially makes more sense if you think about Solomon, who had a buttload of wives/concubines, and all the Wisdom he must have gained from having that experience. That is, if you are one who believes that Solomon wrote most of Proverbs. Hahaha…
